In Mets

The New York Mets' Citi Field, site of 2013 ASG

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig, along with Mets owner Fred Wilpon and Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg, will be holding a press conference today at 11:30am Eastern Time to announce the location of the 2013 All-Star Game. That location is expected to be Citi Field in Flushing, NY.

This is the first All-Star Game to be held at Citi Field, which opened in 2009, and the first time the Mets have hosted since 1964, historic Shea Stadium’s opening year. The Yankees were New York’s last master of ceremonies for the game, playing host in 2008, old Yankee Stadium’s final year.

The 2012 All-Star Game will be held at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on July 12.

For the second time in the month-long retrial of Roger Clemens, a juror has been dismissed for falling asleep during the trial. The seat-one juror has been replaced by the first alternate juror in seat seven.

Clemens is currently on trial to decide whether or not he lied to a Grand Jury about steroid use in 2008. Judge Reggie Wilson declared a mistrial in the first trial in July 2011, when he decided that Clemens should be tried again due to an ‘honest mistake’ that prosecutors made by presenting jurors with inadmissible evidence.

Clemens has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton and the Reds’ Joey Votto both delivered big on Mother’s Day. And not just to Mom either.

The two combined for a pair of walk-off grand slams, which hasn’t occurred in over 14 years. The last two to do so were Mo Vaughn of the Red Sox and Steve Finley of the Padres. For Stanton, his slam came in much more dramatic fashion, finishing off an unlikely six-run ninth inning rally over the Mets.

In addition to his game-winner, Votto belted two homers earlier in the game, finishing the day 4-5 with 6 RBI in a win against the Nationals.

According to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports, the Angels and Nationals have discussed the possibility of a trade that would send outfielder Peter Bourjos to Washington.

Even after releasing Bobby Abreu, the Angels have a crowded outfield after calling up top prospect Mike Trout. The Nationals are dealing with an injury to Jayson Werth, who could potentially be out for two months.

Other teams such as the Royals, Diamondbacks, and Blue Jays have also shown interest in Bourjos, according to Morosi.

The world watched Bryce Harper on ESPN Sunday night, and they got the show one can expect when watching a rookie phenom when Harper stole home on a Cole Hamels pickoff attempt to first base.

Harper got on base via a hit by pitch courtesy of Hamels, who said after the game that he went after him intentionally.

Watch the video below of Harper stealing home before the MLB has it removed as usual.

Bryce Harper, the kiss-blowing phenom, will finally be making  his Major League debut.

After struggling in the minors to start of the season, the Nationals have decided that the sooner they bring him up the better.

I don’t understand the timing of the move, because besides the fact that Harper was hitting .250 in the minors, the Nationals have been playing like the best team in the National League. Why potentially mess up that chemistry by bringing up an egocentric number one pick?

I can understand calling him up when the team’s offense is struggling, but when they’re playing the best they have in a decade, I just don’t get it.

You read it right.

In the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday with the Jays down two runs and Endy Chavez seeing his first action of the game as a defensive replacement, a Toronto fan tossed a potato at the left fielder, causing a brief stoppage in play.

Must be a Canadian thing.

Chavez jogged the vegetable into third base umpire Jim Wolf who couldn’t help but to laugh.

No word on the temperature of the potato.

An interesting screenshot emerged of Orioles’ second baseman Robert Andino’s facial expression through the years with the franchise, and it appears he finally discovered the team he plays for.

I can only imagine the horrified look we’d see if he played for the Mets.

If you thought Tebow Mania was finished after the NFL season, you were wrong.

It was opening day at Camden Yards for the Orioles on Friday, and an interesting customized jersey was spotted: Tebow, number 15.

It might make more sense if this was in Florida or New York, but a Tebow baseball jersey in Baltimore? That’s just odd, albeit not so surprising.
